Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all! We had a wonderful day visiting a sea turtle rehabilitation facility and enjoying the sunshine at my daughter’s house in Florida. But I have received several questions on my last post Dimensional Shadow Coloring Using Alcohol Markers. Specifically the writers asked for more information about using 3D dynamic embossing folders without tearing your cardstock. So tonight I am going to show you a few tips for achieving a perfect, deep pattern without any ripping.
This is the card in question. We will zero in on the large Sahara Sand panel that was embossed with a Stampin’ Up! dynamic folder.
What to Do
First cut a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of Sahara Sand. Place it along with the dynamic embossing folder of your choice and a paper towel on your work surface.
Spritz the paper towel lightly with clean water and place it on top of your cardstock. Hold there for a moment or two. Some recommend wetting the cardstock directly, but I prefer to wet the paper towel first and use it to lightly moisten the cardstock. This method seems to wet the cardstock more evenly and in the end prevents having the cardstock curl too much.
A New Big Shot Sandwich
Using 3D dynamic embossing folders without tearing your cardstock requires a slight change to your usual Big Shot sandwich. Place the moistened cardstock into the embossing folder. Position the folder so the jointed side of the folder (the spine) goes into the Big Shot first.
Now for your sandwich. First place your base platform on the Big Shot as usual. Next comes the embossing folder with paper inside, spine side first. Yes, SKIP the bottom plate!
Finally, top with one plate and run the sandwich through the Big Shot machine.
DO NOT REMOVE IT!
Change the direction and run the folder through again to be sure your embossing is nice and deep.
NOTE: If you are using one of the 6″ x 6″ folders, you can turn the folder one-quarter turn before running the folder through the Big shot the second time.
Finish Your Card
Let your panel dry and attach it to your card base with a strong adhesive like Fast Fuse.
